FAQ

What is a registrar

A registrar is a company providing you the service of domain registration and also taking over the annual fees of the registration. The domain registration fee is usually paid annually and differs on top level domain (i.e. .COM, .CO, etc) and on registrar. Most registrars also provide further services, like web-hosting or email. Some famous registrars are: GoDaddy, Name.com, Google, United-Internet, 1und1 IONOS to name a few.

What is an authorization code

You can only register domain name at a registrar as long as it is free (unregistered). If a domain is already registered, you registrar will offer you a transfer-in option, so the domain will move from one registrar to another into your account. For this transfer-in option the registrar requires you to provide the authorization code ( also referred to as AUTH-CODE ), which you can treat as a password. This code can only be issued from a current domain owner.
